On June 5th, the U.S. Senate voted on the Right to Contraception Act, a simple bill that protects the right to contraception, which has been threatened across the country. Despite overwhelming public support, Senator Cramer and Senator Hoeven voted against this crucial legislation.
The Right to Contraception Act would have protected contraception from further attempts to restrict and deny access. We know access to contraception is under attack.
Yesterday, Cramer and Hoeven voted against the Right to IVF Act, legislation to protect and expand access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and other assisted reproductive technology (ART) services nationwide. The legislation was a reaction to protect IVF access following the explosive Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos count as children under state law, which shut down in vitro fertilization programs in Alabama. While IVF remains legal in the US, the threats to providing and accessing it should not be understated.
Their votes do not represent the needs and values around contraception.
